Youth Work

What about Youth Work......

In the reading Youth Work by Wood, Westwood and Thompson there are many areas that have very good points.

1. How each person see youth work differently. Someone might see it as helping youth in an educational matter and someone else might see it as helping youth to have a place to go after school.

2.How people that are working with youth are not just telling youth how to do something but the youth are watching how a leader is acting towards others. If someone comes and says to do this but never role molds what they want someone to do they are not going to do it.

I found this image online and it highlighted many of the same ideas as in the reading. Being a youth worker can have it's ups and downs but at the end of the day you still have to walk away being a positive role model with all the social justice ideas that can get through at you in one day.

3. Youth have to be able to connect to the youth work. Now, this doesn't mean they have to be friends, this means they have to respect each other so they are able to complete the goal that everyone is working on.

Key is working with youth, not talking at youth.

  1. Ashly... this is so easy to read and visually pleasing! Beautiful! Great points though these aren't the 7 I was thinking of in the chapter. Look back to see what else W, W&T say about the "characteristics"...
